Nikes are my go-to running shoe, so I couldn’t have been more psyched to create my very own custom pair. I customized the Nike Lunarglide + iD which comes with (drum roll please): a lightweight responsive cushioning and a flywire lacing system. I think the flywire feature is really great because it allows for a stable and supportive fit.
For the customization process, I not only was able to mix and match colors for each area of the shoe, I was also able to add a gradient-like fade to the upper half of the shoe, choose a reflective inner sleeve for added visibility (a solid option is available as well), and choose a “slightly firmer responsive” or a “slightly softer cushioned” sock liner. The amount of customization possible is really amazing – options include color, material, and performance. My favorite part is the iD logo you can put on the tongue of the shoe. I opted for an inspirational message with “Don’t” on the right shoe and “Quit” on the left. Don’t Quit.
Let me walk you through my personal customization process.
A little hesitant to release my creative side, the first version of my Lunarglide was a bit bland…However, I quickly decided that I LOVE the volt yellow and I must somehow incorporate that into my final version.
The bright white was an invitation for dirt and mud to live on my shoes. I decided to get a little crazy while creating another version. Maybe a little too crazy?
I then went into a whole new direction. The Olympics are coming up, so why not have an Olympic inspired shoe. Nothing says “Go USA” like a pair of red, white, and blue running shoes.
I then decided that I wanted a more universal wear-any-day-of-the-year running shoe. Sticking with my yellow volt obsession, I added a little more color. I think the salmon color called light mango color go really nicely together. What do you think?
After 45 minutes on the site I decided I was having a little too much fun. There are SO many options that I was having a hard time deciding on just one. Why can’t I have a different pair of running shoes for every day of the month? For my final customization I decided to combine what I liked about each of my other versions. I ended up with a clean, crisp, light colored (non white of course) running shoe with what else? A yellow volt swoosh.
After hiking into wet caves and through multiple Mayan ruins, I left my last pair of Lunarglides in Belize a couple weeks ago . They took me far past the suggested 300 miles and I’m sure a local girl appreciated finding them – but I’m excited to get a brand new pair and break them in with new adventures.
